Skip the chains and eat like a local with this guide to Canon City's best restaurants, from historic diners to modern hangouts.

Eating Well in Canon City

Canon City's dining scene reflects its character: unpretentious, welcoming, and full of pleasant surprises. These are the places locals actually eat—not tourist traps, but genuine community favorites.

The Owl Cigar Store

If you eat at only one place in Canon City, make it The Owl. This isn't nostalgia tourism—it's a genuine 100+ year-old establishment that's been feeding Canon City since the early 1900s. The original tile floors, pressed-tin ceiling, and soda fountain are all authentic. The breakfast burritos smothered in green chile are legendary. Cash preferred. Breakfast and lunch only.

Rooftop Social

The newcomer on Main Street that's quickly become a local favorite. The rooftop deck is the place to be on summer evenings. The cocktails are properly made with local spirits, the elevated American menu features delicious street tacos and shareable plates, and the atmosphere strikes the right balance between casual and elevated.

White Water Bar & Grill

The post-rafting institution. Yes, it's touristy in summer, but that's because it delivers exactly what you want after a day on the river: cold beer, big burgers, and a deck overlooking the Arkansas. Seasonal hours—call ahead during shoulder season.

Pizza Madness

When you need pizza, this is where Canon City goes. Hand-tossed dough, generous toppings, no pretense. Perfect for families or when you want something simple and satisfying. Delivery available.

El Caporal

The Mexican restaurant that locals prefer. Sizzling fajita platters, properly made margaritas, and a welcoming atmosphere. The lunch specials are an excellent value.

Canon City Mugs

A beloved local cafe serving house-roasted coffee and excellent breakfast and lunch. The breakfast burritos are outstanding, and the espresso drinks rival anything you'd find in bigger cities. A perfect start to your day of adventure.

Pro Tips

Summer weekends are busiest—consider early dinners or reservations at popular spots. Many restaurants close earlier than you might expect on weeknights. The rafting outfitter base camps often have surprisingly good food for breakfast and lunch during season.
